The selection process, coordinated by Andréa Holzherr and Ludovica Pellegatta of Magnum Photos, evaluated 168 applications from 30 countries, confirming the strong international interest in the program. Tourism Councilor Riccardo Genovesi expressed his satisfaction with this choice, which “strengthens Sirmione’s role as a cultural hub and a place for dialogue with contemporary photography.”

Tanaka’s works include “Chicharrón,” a project awarded the Cosmos Arles PDF Award, featuring diptychs that juxtapose landscapes, portraits, and still lifes in a play of visual and conceptual contrasts.

Hiro Tanaka has won the Cosmos Arles PDF Award (Les Rencontres d’Arles, Francia) and the TPD Book Award (Italy), and has been a finalist or nominee for the World Press Photo Global Talent, the PHotoESPAÑA Best Book Award, the Gomma Photography Grant and the Kassel Photobook Award. His works have been presented at major international festivals and exhibition venues, and have been featured in several monographic publications.

During the residency, he will develop a new photographic journey dedicated to Sirmione, exploring the relationships between territory, people, and landscape, with the aim of offering an original interpretation of the city and its cultural identity.
